Project Scope: Star Painting & Repairs Ltd. acted as the General Contractor for the complete renewal and AODA upgrade of the public washrooms at Scarborough GO Station. The project involved full demolition and reconstruction of washroom facilities within an active, occupied station environment, requiring phased construction, detailed staging, and coordination with Metrolinx operations to maintain continuous public use and safety.
Scope of Work Included
- Complete demolition of existing washroom interiors including fixtures, partitions, ceilings, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems.
- Removal and replacement of sanitary piping, domestic water lines (DCW/DHW), drains, and obsolete infrastructure.
- Full reconstruction of washrooms to meet AODA standards and barrier-free requirements.
- Installation of new partitions, fixtures, finishes, and accessibility components including door operators and universal washroom features.
- Plumbing installations including sanitary and vent systems, trap seal primers, and domestic water systems.
- Installation of new electric domestic water heater (DWH-1).
- Mechanical and HVAC modifications including exhaust and system integration.
- Electrical upgrades including lighting, receptacles, GFI outlets, occupancy sensors, emergency lighting, CAT6 cabling, and PA system connections.
- Work within pipe chases and confined spaces with appropriate safety procedures.
- Multi-phase construction to maintain station operations and public access.
- Staging, barricading, and pedestrian protection measures in high-traffic areas.
- Scheduling of electrical shutdowns and plumbing tie-ins during off-peak or night hours.
- Temporary services installation to maintain essential building operations during construction.
- Coordination and management of all subtrades including plumbing, HVAC, electrical, drywall, carpentry, tiling, and door hardware.
- Implementation of site-specific safety plans including hazard assessments, confined space protocols, and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Full General Contractor responsibilities including labour, materials, equipment, scheduling, documentation, quality control, and coordination with Metrolinx.
